School Registration Form for Special Olympics

2012 Special Olympics So Active Brochure

I have just recently taken over as the Youth Development Coordinator at Special Olympics Saskatchewan. Just wanted to touch base and introduce myself, and once again make you aware of one program in particular that may be of interest to you. That program being the SOActive Program.

The SOActive School-Based Program is a new program in which Special Olympics partners with Saskatchewan schools to create an environment for increased participation and opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities. The aim of this program is to create sport clubs in the school (either extracurricular or physical education classes) for increased physical activity and participation. Through these sport clubs, the athletes can then compete against other schools or sport clubs through virtual competitions or travel to tournaments if so wished.

The SOActive Program is set up to be extremely flexible within each school. This allows each school to determine how they would like to run the program and which sports or skills to focus on while receiving all the benefits of being registered with Special Olympics.

The benefits include access to all grant money Special Olympics offers, recognition through Special Olympics of the achievements of your school, as well as access to any Special Olympics resources (Special Olympics has a SOActive School Tool Kit which would be given to your school upon registration with ideas and tips for teachers to run these programs).

We at SOS feel like this is a great program and from the responses we have received the results have exceeded our expectations. This program establishes a great relationship between the student-athletes and the teachers as well as fostering a relationship with SOS.

If this is something that is of potential interest, please do let me know and we can arrange a meeting or phone call to discuss the program in depth.

Thank you in advance for your time,
