Screencasting 101 Workshop

A screen cast is a digital recording of a computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing narration.

A screenshot is a picture of a computer screen at a chosen time.

Screen casts can help demonstrate and teach the use of software features to your students. You can also use screen casts to create recorded examples of a teacher solving a problem or explaining a concept  in a subject like math which can be archived on a class blog or wiki for students to watch.

Sceencast or screen sharing tools:

  1. Windows Snipping Tool
  2. Smart Recorder
  3. Jing

1) Windows Snipping Tool:

Snipping Tool captures a screen shot of anything on your desktop, like a picture or a section of webpage. Then you can save or e-mail the image using buttons right in the Snipping Tool window.

2) Smart Recorder:

Using SMART Recorder, you can record the actions you take on the interactive screen. If you connect a microphone to your computer, you can record your narration. After you create a recording, you can play the recording on any computer using Windows Media Player, or you can share the recording with others.
