Adobe Premiere 8 Workshop

 

In the workshop we will look at an overview of the Adobe Premiere elements 8 video editing software as well as resources that I have found. We will create a project by importing audio, images, clipart and video media. This media will be arranged and edited in a story line.Titles will be created as well as the use of transitions, music and narration. Finally we will look at saving and sharing our movies.

Overview of Premiere Elements

Starting a new video Project: 

  1. Start Adobe Premiere Elements 8 software 
  2. Choose new Project
  3. Select name for project
  4. For the Save In section Choose browse
  5. Choose make new folder to store your project on the desktop or in your windows libraries video library
  6. Match settings to your camera

 

 7.  select get media tab and get video from type of camcorder or from PC Files and Folders 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8. Add any other media such as audio or images to your project folder. (Save your project frequently to avert disaster)

9. Insert video clips into sceneline, move clips around if they are not in the correct order.   Editing Sceneline

10. Choose project and then select the starred Icon.  From the dropdown menu select black video. It will appear in the sceneline. Drag it over to the first scene.

 

 

 

 

 

 

11. Choose the Black Video scene in the sceneline and select the T symbol to add Text.  Edit the text style and add text animation if you wish.

(CTRL -Z are the keystrokes you can use to undo any operation)

 12. Choose suitable transitions and add them between scenes in the sceneline or timeline if you feel they are needed.      Transition creation

13. Switch to the timeline and adjust the monitor and my project panel  by grabbing the boundary so that you can see more of the tracks on the my project panel will appear. Add any audio to the sountrack by dragging it from the side  to the my project soundtrack.

 14. You can move video clips in the timeline but you must hold the CTRL key down to stop the video timeline from leaving a gap where the video originally was. Also hold down the ALT key to prevent the audio soundtrack fom being cut by the moved video clip.

15. Add narration by choosing the add narration option under audio tools. Mute sound from  your project while narrating to eliminate feddback.

 

 16. To Balance out your audio tracks, go to audio tools and choose audio mix in the drop down menu.. Move the sliders in the audio tracks to create the audio composition and volume that you want for your peoject.

 

 

 17. You can edit video clips:

  • by selecting end of clip and dragging the double headed arrow (created by the software) into the clip and thus shortening it
  • move the pointer to where you want it inthe clip and select the split clip Icon (scissors) or CTRL-K. Now that the clip is split, right click on the clip that you do not want and select delete and close gap from the menu selections. This will not work if you have a narration soundtrack under the video clip

 

 18. You can shorten an clip audio by selecting the end of the clip and dragging the double headed arrow (created by the software) into the clip and thus shortening it

19. You can share your project when you are done by choosing the SHARE tab in Adobe Premiere. The software has a DVD authoring component which allows you to create and burn a DVD. You could aslo choose the Personal Computer option so that students could create their movies and share them with others in their class. You must be patient when the movie files are being created as they must be rendered into a viewable format which can take a very long time.
