Learning Targets:  Setting a clear target based on an outcome helps students focus on what they need to learn (rather than just the activity!).  It also provides our basis for setting and using criteria for ongoing formative assessment, and is the backbone of our summative assessment.  Having a clear learning target as an instructional goal is a way of determining which activities are worthwhile in the class, and it guides our instruction.
